First Reading: Ezekiel 36:23–28
In the first reading, God promises to restore His people and make His holiness known among the nations.

This message offers great hope. Even when people have turned away from God, He does not abandon them. Instead, He calls them back and offers them the grace to begin again.
God wants more than outward change. He wants to transform our hearts so that we can follow His ways and live according to His commandments.
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 51:12–13, 14–15, 18–19
Response: I will pour clean water on you and you shall be cleansed.
Psalm 51 is a beautiful prayer of repentance and renewal.
The psalmist asks God to create a clean heart and restore the joy of salvation. Therefore, it reminds us that true conversion begins within us.
When we recognise our sins, we should not run away from God. Instead, we should ask for His mercy and allow Him to renew our hearts.
Gospel Acclamation
Psalm 95:8
Today you will hear His voice: harden not your hearts.
This verse connects closely with today’s readings. God continues to speak to us, but we must be willing to listen.
A hardened heart can prevent us from responding to God’s invitation. On the other hand, an open heart allows His Word to change our lives.
Gospel: Matthew 22:1–14
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the wedding feast.
A king prepares a great wedding feast for his son. He sends servants to call the invited guests, but they refuse to come.
Some ignore the invitation because they are busy with their farms and businesses. Others even mistreat the servants.
The king then sends his servants into the streets to invite everyone they can find. As a result, the wedding hall becomes filled with guests.
However, the king notices one man who is not wearing a wedding garment. This part of the parable reminds us that accepting God’s invitation also calls for a proper response.
Jesus ends the parable with the words:
“Many are invited, but few are chosen.”
Reflection
Today’s readings give us a powerful message about conversion and God’s invitation.
First, God promises to give His people a new heart. Therefore, no one should believe that they are too far from God to change.
Next, the Gospel shows us that God invites people to His Kingdom. Yet, simply hearing the invitation is not enough. We must respond to it with faith and allow God’s grace to transform our lives.
Sometimes, we can become too busy with work, money, family responsibilities or other activities. These things may be important, but they should never become more important than God.
The Gospel therefore encourages us to examine our priorities.
Are we responding to God’s invitation, or are we constantly making excuses?
God continues to call us. Today, He invites us to open our hearts, accept His grace and live according to His will.
Prayer
Lord, give me a clean heart and a faithful spirit. Help me to recognise Your voice when You call me. Do not allow the worries and distractions of life to keep me away from You. May I accept Your invitation with faith and allow Your grace to transform my life. Amen.
Saint of the Day: Saint Bernard
The Church celebrates the Memorial of Saint Bernard, Abbot and Doctor of the Church, on August 20.
Saint Bernard was a Cistercian monk, abbot and influential preacher. He was also known for his deep love for Christ and his devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
His life reminds Christians of the importance of prayer, humility and dedication to God.

Instead, may we open our hearts, accept His invitation and walk faithfully with Him.
