The Catholic Mass readings for Wednesday, 12 August 2026, focus on God’s holiness, reconciliation and the importance of correcting one another with love. The First Reading comes from Ezekiel, while the Gospel is taken from Matthew.
First Reading – Ezekiel 9:1-7; 10:18-22
The First Reading presents a powerful vision given to the prophet Ezekiel. God sees the sins being committed in Jerusalem and knows what is happening among His people.
However, the Lord also notices those who are troubled by the evil around them. He commands that a mark be placed on the foreheads of those who sigh and grieve over the sins committed in the city.
This passage reminds us that God sees the condition of every heart. He knows those who remain faithful to Him, even when surrounded by wrongdoing.
The reading then describes the departure of the glory of the Lord from the temple. Ezekiel sees the cherubim and the glory of the God of Israel. Through this vision, we are reminded that God’s presence is holy.

From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord deserves praise. His glory is above all nations and higher than the heavens.
Indeed, no one compares with our God. He is exalted above all creation, yet He looks with love upon His people.

God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.

Gospel – Matthew 18:15-20
In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches His disciples how to deal with someone who has sinned against them. Rather than spreading the matter to others, He first asks them to speak privately with the person.
If the person listens, the relationship can be restored. When the matter cannot be resolved privately, Jesus gives further steps to help the people involved seek a fair solution.
The teaching shows that correction should have a purpose. We should not correct others simply to embarrass them. Instead, our goal should be to help them change and restore peace.
Jesus also speaks about the authority of the Church. He then gives a beautiful promise about prayer.
Where two or three are gathered in His name, Jesus is present among them.
Reflection on Mass Readings August 12 2026
Today’s readings encourage us to take sin seriously while also seeking reconciliation. God wants His people to remain faithful and to care about the spiritual well-being of others.
When someone hurts us, anger can make us want to expose or condemn that person. Jesus gives us a better way. He tells us to speak directly and privately first.
Likewise, we should be humble enough to accept correction when someone points out our faults. Nobody is perfect, and we all need God’s grace to grow.
The Gospel also reminds us of the power of united prayer. Jesus promises to remain present whenever His people gather in His name.
Therefore, let us ask God for wisdom when correcting others. May He give us patience when we are corrected and grace to forgive those who hurt us.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, help us to live in peace with one another. Give us the courage to correct with love and the humility to accept correction. Heal broken relationships and help us forgive those who have hurt us. May our words and actions bring reconciliation wherever we go. Amen.
