Courage to Stand for What Is Right
Faith lessons from Esther remind us that God often places His people exactly where they need to be for a greater purpose. Esther’s story is one of courage, wisdom, humility, and selfless love. Although she was an orphan and lived in exile, God raised her to become queen at a time when her people desperately needed someone to stand in the gap.
Her life encourages every Christian to trust God’s plan, even when the future is uncertain. Like Esther, we may discover that God has placed us where we are “for such a time as this.”
Who Was Esther?
Esther was a young Jewish woman raised by her cousin Mordecai after the death of her parents.
When Queen Vashti was removed from her position, King Ahasuerus (Xerxes) chose Esther to become the new queen of Persia.
Although she lived in the king’s palace, Esther kept her Jewish identity hidden until the time God called her to reveal it.
Soon afterward, Haman, an official in the king’s court, plotted to destroy all the Jewish people.
Mordecai urged Esther to speak to the king on behalf of her people.
Esther’s Courage
Approaching the king without an invitation could result in death.
Esther knew the risk but also understood that remaining silent would cost countless innocent lives.
Before going to the king, she asked all the Jews to fast and pray for three days.
Then she declared:
“If I perish, I perish.” (Esther 4:16)
God blessed her courage.
The king welcomed Esther, Haman’s evil plan was exposed, and the Jewish people were saved.
Faith Lessons from Esther
1. God Has a Purpose for Your Life
Esther’s position as queen was not an accident.
God often prepares us long before we understand His purpose.
“Who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14)
2. Courage Requires Faith
Esther acted despite her fear.
True courage is trusting God enough to do what is right.
“Be strong and courageous.” (Joshua 1:9)
3. Prayer Comes Before Action
Before speaking to the king, Esther called for fasting and prayer.
Christians should seek God’s guidance before making important decisions.
“Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
4. Use Your Influence for Good
Esther did not use her position for personal gain.
She used it to protect others.
God also calls us to use our gifts, talents, and opportunities to serve Him and help those in need.
“Let your light shine before others.” (Matthew 5:16)
5. Trust God’s Timing
Everything in Esther’s life happened according to God’s perfect plan.
Even when He seems hidden, He is always at work.
“For everything there is a season.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
Why Esther’s Story Still Inspires Christians
Many Christians face moments when they must choose between comfort and courage.
Esther teaches us that God can use ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things when they trust Him completely.
Her story reminds us that one act of faith and obedience can change the lives of many.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the inspiring example of Queen Esther. Give us the courage to stand for truth, the wisdom to seek You in prayer, and the faith to trust Your purpose for our lives. Help us to use every opportunity You give us to serve others and glorify Your holy name. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
